Designing with Devotion

The Iconic eco-conscious Green University

Sri Sri University’s visually stunning design and architecture are inspired by two world-changing universities, Nalanda and Takshashila, known for their environmentally friendly and aesthetically pleasing robust structures. In crafting our design, we embraced the same values of being an environmentally conscious green university and emphasizing aesthetics.

The earthy rustic color matched the locally abundant construction material, laterite, and the Odishan style added to the University’s appeal. Gurudev’s vision was for the University to be an iconic-scenic landscape rather than just a cluster of tall buildings. For this purpose, we constructed the main academic blocks like Shruti, Keerti, and the Iconic tower inside quarries without causing any disturbance to the natural landscape. Our main inspiration was creating an environmentally friendly and stunning place, just like the historical universities Nalanda and Takshashila, to recreate that remarkable atmosphere.

Construction

Harmony, Sustainability, Honesty

Use of eco-friendly materials in construction

Our construction of Sri Sri University embodied sustainability and contributed to a greener environment by utilizing local materials like laterite stones and sandstones which are abundant in Odisha, and fly ash bricks (a by-product of burning coal in power plants recycled into bricks), into the foundation, walls, and other structural elements. Our goal was to create a groundbreaking design for Sri Sri University, infusing each building with Odisha’s architectural style to craft an exceptional and captivating campus.

Vibrant local artistry like Patachitra paintings adorns the walls, entrances, and various areas adding a touch of the region’s culture. In Odishan architecture, you’ll find beautiful stone carvings, earthy colors, and mudstones. These elements were carefully chosen to blend in perfectly with the natural surroundings making the structures look like they belong there. We diligently incorporated these traditional heritage works while considering cost and balancing factors. We cherished the quarry as the centerpiece of the landscape and have retained it in the design of all major academic blocks such as Shruti, Keerti, and the ongoing Iconic tower, along with a multi-purpose hall and tennis courts built within it. More excitingly, the Iconic Tower inspired by the Lingaraj Temple style is currently under construction adding further excitement and architectural splendor to the campus.

Sumeru follows a holistic approach to designing and constructing buildings that not only consider the functional needs of the space, but also prioritize the well-being of its occupants and the environment. The construction process emphasizes the use of locally found materials and sustainable practices to ensure that the building is resilient, long-lasting and conserves energy usage.

Furthermore, the design incorporates eco-friendly practices that respect and work with the five elements of nature, including earth, water, fire, air, and space to evoke sattvic vibes. We also draw inspiration from ancient architecture practices, using research and innovation to incorporate them into modern times. Honesty and integrity are key values upheld throughout the construction process, ensuring that the final product is not only beautiful but also ethical and sustainable.

Sumeru has been a trusted partner in our journey since the inception of Sri Sri University in 2009. The construction of the university was a dream come true as the land was initially just stone quarries. Despite the challenges, Sumeru’s team completed the grand academic block, Shruti, in just 8 months. Now, for the even grander Iconic Tower, we continue to choose Sumeru for the expertise and value they provide.
